New Orleans

Monday, February 8, 2010 posted by Dr David Grayson

Hi Everyone:

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday, what I consider the final day of the holiday season that starts in Thanksgiving, goes through Christmas and New Years, and includes Martin Luther King Day.  A long season, no matter how one looks at it, and how many (if any) these days individuals may observe.

Yesterday’s game was exciting. Not a classic game, like the past two Super Bowls, but exciting. It pitted two teams that, for a while, were undefeated.  Two outstanding quarterbacks.  Some great plays. Some not so great plays.

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their terriifc and emotional victory. When one considers what the city of New Orleans has gone through in the past few years, it was really a boost to a community that has been  battered, devestated and nearly destroyed. I was in New Orleans a few weeks before Katrina. Most  people don’t remember that Katrina was one of several hurricanes that hit that city that summer. A heavy rain which we experienced one of our days there, filled the streets with several inches of water almost immediately. So it came as no surprise to me that this huge hurricane did such monumental damage.

But the city is recovering, and now with this terrific win, the Saints have given a much needed boost to this beleagured but undefeated town.

I realize this has nothing to do with my usual topics, but I just wanted to express my views on this. I promise to get back to my normal subjects in my next blog.
