So How Can I Lose That Holiday Weight?

Thursday, February 4, 2010 posted by Dr David Grayson

So here it is, the beginning of February.  One month into the New Year. How many of us ( I include myself here too, I am just as human as the rest of the world) gained weight during the holidays? All those holiday parties, those Christmas dinners with all that wonderful holiday fare. Not to mention the deep fried potato pancakes that are enjoyed during Hanukkah. And the New Year bashes! And, with Super Bowl Sunday  only a few days away, we have yet another reason to over indulge, this time on chicken wings, chips, dips, huge sub sandwiches, chili and the inevitable beer.

For must people, gaining weight is all too easy. (There are some souls who simply cannot gain weight.  We won’t discuss those lucky few). Losing weight, on the other hand, is all too often very difficult. And once lost, it is even harder to maintain the weight. So often people lose weight only to rebound and gain more than they initially lost!

And the diet industry is a multi million to billions of dollars industry. The diets, the programs, the special foods, the pills, the constant advertisements on TV. How does one cope with all of these things?

I am firmly convinced that no diet, or medication or program is going to work by its self.  In order to truly lose weight and keep it off one must change one’s attitude about food. No diet program, or food choice, will work unless the person trying to lose weight is willing to look at food differently.

One excellent way to change ones’ attitude about food and losing weight is through hypnosis. It is an excellent tool to empower the truly motivated individual to alter the way they view food and eating, and help the person get on a path to lose weight and keep it off.

Normally i don’t respond to a post like this, but since i really liked it I just had to give you a thumbs up :)

  2. You should focus on the total number of calories you are burning. If you burn enough calories with the right type of exercises and workouts, you are almost guaranteed to be burning more than enough fat.

  3. Dr David Grayson says:

Agreed. But many people need that extra help to focus on doing what they should do. It is one thing to say that you need to eat right, exercise etc. It is quite another to actually do it consistently and properly. That’s where the work I do comes in. By helping people to reframe the way they look at both food and exercise, one can help them achieve their health and weight goals.

  4. This is interesting…I’d like to know what you would recommend in my situation. My goal is to shed about 15 pounds in the next couple of months and finally have six pack abs. But there are such a huge number of “systems” out there and I have no idea which one to trust. Can somebody point me towards a good plan for burning fat and adding solid muscle?

  5. Dr David Grayson says:

I can’t recommend any systems or plans as I am not qualified to do so.

  6. I’m working on getting six pack abs right now and it’s pretty challenging. Does anyone here have some tips as far as a good six pack abs diet? My trainer says that egg whites, oatmeal, salmon, blueberries and broccoli are all necessary to include in your diet…anything else I’m not thinking of?

  7. Dr David Grayson says:

Sounds like you’ve got the bases covered, if a but sparse. Check with a dietitian or nutritionist to be sure. I am neither of those. Just like to give advice on how much and the right things to eat. I don’t do specific diets.

  8. Although it may sound a bit corny, I really like taking care hearing and whilst I do agree with the above poster and I really hope I do not get shot down for stating this, but I think it is important to take all things in moderation.
